SCPA’s board is working diligently to get more court time — and, some day, dedicated courts — for drop-in and other pickleball events and activities. It’s really tough in Summit County because land values are so high in our beautiful resort area. There are many competing uses for the little dedicated public recreation space there is in the county.
SCPA President Lori Miller makes frequent appeals to every recreation authority who will listen. She tracks down every lead regarding a potentially unused tennis facility, even ones in severe disrepair that we might fundraise to fix up.
Rick Bell is now attending monthly meetings of the Town of Silverthorne Sport Committee to show SCPA’s presence and advocate for consideration of pickleball needs.
You can help by printing your name in an attendance notebook each day you participate in pickleball drop-in — and encouraging others to do so. We want visitors to make their presence known as well.
The books and pens will be in the club’s equipment boxes at each drop-in location. The first folks who arrive please grab the notebook and fill in the date in the first blank column. Then print your name in a space below and ask other players to do the same. If the day’s column fills up, start the next column with the same date.
Over time, we’ll tally the numbers and show up at town and county rec departments with hard numbers showing and how it contributes to local health (via locals’ participation) and our tourism economy (showing how many visitors make pickleball part of their vacations).
We’d also appreciate additional volunteers to attend various town recreation meetings on SCPA’s behalf. Any questions contact Linda Bush (lindabush99@gmail.com) or Lori Miller (pblorim@gmail.com). Thank you!
